I caught up with a beautiful friend and soon-to-be-Mummy of 3. As a Mum of 4 children myself (ranging from 14months through to 14 years), I am often asked my opinion about various aspects of raising children. Now I am going to make a disclaimer here that I am in NO way an expert on rearing children but I do have life experience and a decent amount of common sense…
Our conversation turned to ‘Placenta Encapsulation’. Now to those who have no idea what I am talking about, let me explain.
In almost all mammals, the placenta – the organ that develops in pregnancy to provide oxygen and nutrients to the baby and remove waste products – is eaten by the mother immediately after giving birth. Humans and aquatic mammals are the only exceptions.
But the number of women choosing to eat their placenta has increased over the past decade.
The most common way to consume the placenta is to have it made into capsules. To do this, the placenta is steamed, dried and then ground into a fine powder. The resulting capsules are taken several times a day during the postpartum period. One placenta usually yields around 100-200 capsules.
Now it probably sounds fine in theory, however the nutrients that are retained in this process are minimal and there is no scientific evidence that it actually works. Coupled with the fact that the placenta acts as a transfer of substances between mother and baby and a filter. The placenta collects the toxic substance also so it’s actually not safe to consume. The placenta, once delivered, begins to breakdown and die… as it was designed to do.
So why I am telling you this? Let’s read 2Timothy 4:3-4
3For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
My response to this beautiful Mummy was, “Why on earth would I want to eat (ingest) something that is designed to break down and die once a baby is born?” Our conversation ended soon after but it got me thinking. This Mum is not unintelligent. In fact, she has a degree and a successful career in her field, but her mothers group (where the conversation started for her) is made up of a group of non-Christian women, feeding on the world’s idea of how we should live. The fact that my dear friend had NOT ingested her placenta previously made her the odd-one-out. Yes. She was the one who was different and it made her concerned that perhaps she ought to be considering this wonderful new pill…
The devil comes only to steal, kill and destroy, so if he can get us to feed on the things of this world that are dead then he is winning. The masses will make you look like an idiot if you’re not partaking in all the weird and wonderful things that exist on this planet. You become the one that is small-minded and usually you are mocked for being so. Jesus said that the path to Truth and Life is a narrow-road. You won’t find the masses walking along side you, but take heart!! Their roads lead to death and when they are standing at the edge they will look to you to find common sense, reason and Truth.
I make almost all of my decisions (the big and small) based on the Word of God. It is my stake in the ground of Truth and I am tethered to it. If it does not line up with the Word of God then I will not partake in it. Imagine if we had a generation all tethered to the Truth? Political correctness would be abolished. Men identifying as six year old girls and able to use a ladies bathroom would be righted. Our mad mad world would begin to function as it should.
Please I implore you: tether your life to the Truth. Pray that the Lord would open your eyes to see the darkness in the seemingly insignificant… the world will tell you to be open-minded but we are so open-minded these days that are brains have fallen out. Let’s pop our brains back in and know the difference between right and wrong. Darkness and Light. The devil and our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.
