All of us have heard the saying, “It’s not what you know but who you know.” I have to admit that statement is very true. After working in education for over 18 years I have seen it in the professional world time and time again. I have seen it in personal situations as well where if you know the right person you can get to the front of the line with no wait or even receive things for free! Knowing the right person in our world does matter.
With that said, let’s go to a spiritual level with this knowledge. Knowing the right one in the spiritual realm will make the true and real difference in your life forever. Knowing Jesus Christ gives you special treatment like none other you neither have ever nor ever will experience. When you experience Jesus on a level of friendship and love you will begin to see Him do things in your life that the world will tell you are impossible. Some of you reading this article are shaking your heads in agreement for you already walk with Jesus, but for others this all sounds like a beautiful fairy tale. I agree that it does sound too good to be true, but it isn’t. If you are comparing this idea to the world and what we can see, touch, taste, and physically explain; it will never make sense. Knowing Jesus and experiencing all that He longs to share with you cannot be explained…it can only be experienced.
I see so many people working themselves to death trying to make a dollar when if they would only stop long enough to talk with Jesus about how they could make more money if would come easier and in greater abundance. A second group of people are those who complain about their health and the pain in their bodies when if they only spent more time with Jesus, He could take away their disease and pain. Then comes the people who constantly talk about all the relational problems within their families and how they hate the very ones they should love. Here’s a thought… no one is perfect and our families will hurt us, but if we go to Jesus for comfort and counsel about these issues He will give us patience and peace so that we can actually be around them and not hurt them! Another group are people who don’t know what to do with their children, which I have encountered for over 18 years as a teacher. Most families I find with the worst issues are not involved in a church and the parents are not walking close with Jesus. I know I may be stepping on some toes but God gives me all this to share! If parents spent as much time on their knees in prayer talking to Jesus and interceding for their children as they do running them down to every ear that will listen, I know that they would begin to see an unexplainable difference. A great example of this is my friend, Rev. Amy Lambert, who from the age of 12 until 19 lived her life on the streets as a drug dealer and user. Her mother and grandmother never stopped praying for her life to be spared and for her soul to be saved. She is now an international evangelist speaking to people on the streets and sharing the Word of God to anyone who will listen! That is a power that we cannot explain but it is ours for the taking if we would only get to know this man named Jesus!
There are problems in our lives that we cannot fix no matter how famous, rich, intelligent, or beautiful we are. The only thing that will make a difference is that we have been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 is one of my favorite scriptures and it says, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Peter and John had been called by Jesus to preach what they had seen and heard from being “with Jesus” yet they were uneducated and poor with no social influence. In spite of those odds they were very successful and won the hearts of nations to Jesus Christ. How? Not by their own works or deeds but by who they knew! I find the most interesting part of the scripture to be when it says people could sense or tell that they had been with Jesus. How awesome a compliment would that be if someone said that about you? I think I would burst out crying, myself! Knowing the right person in life can be important, but when you know and follow Jesus Christ, it won’t matter what you do anymore on your own merits. He will open all the right doors and introduce you to all the right people! He does all this just because you know Him.
