Lessons of grace from my vacuum cleaner…

By Christian Womanmag

Yes my vacuum cleaner sucks!

This is clearly what it was designed to do.

Sometimes it does this job well, others times not so great.

What does this have to do with God’s grace?

The other day I was doing the routine job of vacuuming, when it felt like I was bending down to place things in the path of suction more than I was using the vacuum for what it was designed. I felt like I was doing most of the work for the machine, when it was made to do this work for me. I was giving the vacuum an easier day of it.

My thoughts? Just suck it up! I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the machine and wondering why it would not work like it should. If it did then my job would not only be easier but also so much quicker. All I wanted was a clean floor with no dirt or grime under foot.

In annoyance I turned the machine off to check for blockages. I removed the small bit of dirt and grime (oh and some strands of hair!) that may have been causing the machine to work at half it’s capacity, and tried again. This worked brilliantly. Or at least it did for a short time!

For this task – what was to be a quick job – I was using the battery-powered machine that on any given day will retain enough power for a good and thorough job. But, you guessed it, not today! After the check and clean the battery decided it needed some ‘time out’.

I have to admit that this routine job was now causing me to feel like I too needed some ‘time out’ .

This then got me thinking, slowly causing an attitude of gratitude to develop in me, accepting that this is a task that could wait till later if necessary.

The lessons learned from my Vacuum Cleaner:
Firstly, how good is it that all the dirt and grime (along with all the hair loss) that I create in my life is not enough to block the Grace of God!  His grace sucks all this away, and does it so very well that it is never to be found again.

Secondly, the floor of my life is clean and fresh each and every day. I know this to be true from his promise to me in Lamentations 3:22-23 “his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

And finally to top this, He always has the power, after all He IS the power!

There is never a need for God to go on recharge, have a break and do what He promises for us later or when it best works for Him. God assures us  “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you.” Hebrews 13:5

Although I still had a floor that was not as clean as I would have liked, I did have a fresh revelation of the great Love and Grace of our Faithful and Powerful God.

Unlike my vacuum cleaner, or any other man made machine, God is ALWAYS faithful, He believes in me and sees the value and purpose of my life.

I will never view my vacuuming job the same again!
