Hollywood star and committed Christian Patricia Heaton has helped Los Angeles based church The Dream Center in its efforts to hand out more than 14,000 meals a day.
The church, based in the LA downtown precinct of Skid Rowe, normally feeds 1,200 people per day. However, in light of the coronavirus, that number has swelled to 14,000 meals daily.
Heaton, most famous for her role in ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, took to social media to help with supplies for the church to then donate.
“I received a belated birthday present of a $500 gift card, so I headed to #smartandfinal for some of the most needed items – tortillas and diapers!” she stated “@matthewbarnett, @carolinebarnett and everyone at the @DreamcenterLA are doing God’s work helping LA’s most vulnerable!”
Matthew Barnett, the church’s senior pastor, commented, “It was so awesome! You gave us tons of tortillas and people are so thankful.”
Kanye West has helped donate fund and Chick-fil-A is supplying 5,000 sandwiches per week as the church is overwhelmed by the city’s need for help.
“Every morning I wake up and stand in the parking lot with our dedicated staff, I am blown away that day after day, week after week, there is enough food to provide to folks that need it,” Matthew Barnett, Dream Center co-founder, told Fox News.
“The Los Angeles Dream Center has transformed into the Grand Central Station of food distribution and other basic essentials. I’m so grateful that our team has stayed healthy, and that we’ve found a safe way to meet the urgent needs within our community. I can’t say thank you enough to the various donors who’ve made this a reality. This is what a neighborhood, a community, and a church should always look like.”
